Winners announced at our Beating Around
the Bush embroidery convention 2003.
Prize: A full range of Au Ver à Soie Soie d’Alger®
5 meter pull-skein
The recent world wide Au Ver a Soie competition
announced in issue 36 of Inspirations attracted fourteen
of our most talented embroiderers.
We received some amazing entries and our judges had great
difficulty choosing the winner.
We were so impressed with the beautiful embroidery that
it was decided to award a runner up prize also.
The winning entry showed a typically Australian scene with
two pink and grey stumpwork galahs sitting on a branch of
native blossoms, with gently rolling hills in the background.
Our runner up embroidered a stunning pill box hat with silk
threads, goldwork, beads and long tassels.
Five entrants each embroidered an amazing picture, all totally
different and with many unusual techniques incorporated
into each picture.
There were two elegant bags entered in the competition,
both very different and just gorgeous for an evening out
on the town, while a silk evening wrap was decorated with
beads and embroidered native flowers.
A unique chatelaine was also entered, embellished with mythical
creatures.
An exquisite Victorian hand made box with embroidered nasturtiums
was another beautiful project.
We also received an entry of tiny flowers on stems, protected
with a glass dome and an amazing sewing box with tiny freestanding
stumpwork birds by their nest. This round wooden box was
beautifully embroidered on the inside
also.
